Motherhood changes your life. Having a newborn baby to take care of is not easy. It will take a lot of your time and energy. But that doesn’t mean that you have to completely abandon life outside of childcare. Many moms are opting to get part-time jobs – either out of financial necessity or just because they feel that the independence and human interaction that working gives them is important to their wellbeing.
Check my blog there are many mom-friendly Jobs out there that offer flexible hours, or that allow mothers to work from home. Some even let moms log on when they have some spare time, work, and then log off when the baby needs their attention. The “gig economy” – for all it is maligned by those with 9-5 jobs – is invaluable for those who cannot work in that kind of environment. It provides an income stream that can adapt to the needs and capabilities of the worker.
Many moms opt to do small gigs on Amazon Mechanical Turk, or on Fiverr or up work. Others work for major employers using services such as Appen or do transcription or usability testing. These are things that can be done anywhere that there is a net connection, with little in the way of specialist equipment required.
Live work lead advises – If you want to work in an office, then look out for somewhere that has friendly policies in terms of flexi-time and remote working. Check Glassdoor for reviews of employers, and watch out for trends in the comments – every company will have some former employees that dislike it, but if several people are saying the same thing, then that should be a sign that perhaps the employer would not be a good fit for someone who needs a certain level of flexibility.
